The Best Year Ever–Celebrating 115 Years

Kenton Brothers has been very blessed this year.  We celebrated our 115th year servicing our customers; we received certification from WBENC–the largest third-party certifier of women owned businesses in the United States; and we completed the largest project in company history–providing all the hardware and doors for the new NNSA building being built in Kansas City.

Needless to say, it has been a very busy year.  In addition to these three accomplishments, we also doubled our contribution to the Ronald McDonald House Keys to the House that Love Built campaign donating over 500 lbs of scrap brass.  This donation provided the funds for three families to stay for 3 months at the Ronald McDonald House on Cherry Street.

The company received certification to inspect GSA certified containers and replace them should they fail inspection.  This will be necessary as we service all of the containers at the NNSA building, but is also necessary as the new regulations and requirements took effect for all government agencies to replace all non-GSA approved containers back in October.

All in all, it’s a great year at Kenton Brothers.  We hope your year has been just as successful and full-filling.  If you have any security needs we are always here to help with a solution.  Give us a call at 816-842-3700.

Olympic Games

All eyes are focused on London this week for the Olympic Games.  I find myself getting teary-eyed when these athletes who have trained and sacrificed for so many years win an event.  To see them standing on that podium with their hands over their hearts, singing the national anthem is definitely a sight to see.  London has done a phenomenal job hosting the games.  The venues are state-of-the-art and they brought in additional security forces to help ensure everyone’s safety.

But even with all the planning, the attention to detail during the building process and the daily focus on security you can’t anticipate human error.  On July 24, one of the policemen responsible for security at Wembley Stadium—the world-famous sports arena where the finals for football will be held—lost his high security high-tech laser keys.

Scotland Yard was brought in to search for the missing set but despite determining the keys were not stolen, officers were unable to find them.  All internal locks inside the 90,000 seat stadium were replaced at a cost running into the tens of thousands of dollars.  Security at the venue was not comprised and the games were able to proceed as scheduled.  However, I would not want to be that particular police officer!

Locksmithing has been going on here at Kenton Brothers for over 115 years.  When you lose your keys, as we all know we will, please come down to the counter and let us cut you a few more.  Barney and the boys are always ready and willing to help!

Kenton Brothers BBQ Teams Face Off With Eyes On The American Royal BBQ Competition!

To kick off the spring season, Kenton Brothers continued our tradition of quarterly food wars with a rib smoking competition on Thursday, April 14th.  There were four entries by Kenton Brothers team members and each sampling had a very different and distinct flavor!

The company plans to enter a team into the American Royal Barbecue Competition next fall.  The ribs were judged on flavor, texture, and appearance and the overall top choice will be the team’s rib entry in the American Royal.  A guest judge joined in the sampling to give the entrants an idea of what she looks for in a great barbecue rib. Shari Poindexter, wife of Kenton Brothers client Fred Poindexter of the Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience, is a certified barbecue judge and sampled  all of the Kenton Brothers entries.

Team members not competing in the rib contest provided side dishes like coleslaw, barbecue baked beans, and pasta salad.  The lunch was topped off with Spice Bars and Pecan and Chocolate pies. And no barbecue is complete without cold root beer to wash it all down!

Al Cone: Winner, Winner, Rib Dinner!

The winner was Al Cone. Al’s award winning pork spare ribs began with a dry rub which included cayenne pepper and other secret spices. The ribs were smoked in Al’s trusty Orion smoker then finished off with his homemade sauce that combined beer, jalapeno peppers and onion.   These ribs were a favorite around the office as well as the favorite of our guest judges!

Kenton Brothers Christmas Luncheon Was A Great Success!

[nggallery id=4]

Kenton Brothers Inc. Systems for Security held a Christmas luncheon for staff members and their spouses on Wednesday, December 15.

It was a great opportunity for our staff to come together and celebrate the holidays, and tell stories about their families.

Everyone gathered in the sales department of the Kenton Brothers offices and enjoyed a fantastic meal provided by Kansas City’s famous Stroud’s. Pan fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, and cinnamon rolls were on the menu. (Have you ever had a cinnamon roll from Stroud’s?  They’re like a pillow from heaven – more like a traditional hot yeast roll, but covered in gooey butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar!)

The meal was absolutely delicious and our entire staff really enjoyed the time together before the holiday break. We hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas and all of us at Kenton Brothers wish you a very Happy New Year!
