Kenton Brothers Systems for Security is Proud to Help Secure Kansas City Venues Ahead of the FIFA World Cup™
By David Strickland, COO of Kenton Brothers
As excitement builds across the metro, Kenton Brothers Systems for Security is proud to play a role in helping secure key areas of Kansas City in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ this summer.
With global attention turning toward Kansas City as an official host city, security planning has entered a critical phase; from stadiums and training sites to fan zones, hotels, transportation hubs, and surrounding commercial districts, the scale and complexity of preparation is unprecedented in our region’s history.
The Largest Sporting Event in the World
The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ will be the largest tournament ever staged:
- 48 national teams (expanded from 32 in prior tournaments)
- Hosted across 16 cities in three countries; the United States, Canada, and Mexico
- An estimated 1.3 billion viewers expected for the final match alone
- Hundreds of thousands of international visitors projected for host cities
Kansas City is one of only 16 host cities across North America; and notably one of the smallest metro areas selected. That distinction underscores the strength of our infrastructure, hospitality, and civic collaboration.
Kansas City’s Unique Position
Kansas City is not just hosting matches; it has become a central hub for elite international teams.
Three Tier-One national teams have selected the Kansas City region as their base camp:
- England national football team
- Argentina national football team (defending World Cup champions)
- Netherlands national football team
In addition, Algeria national football team is expected to operate within the broader metro area (Lawrence).
This makes Kansas City one of the very few host regions with multiple top-tier teams training locally; bringing international media, sponsors, security coordination, and thousands of traveling supporters’ weeks before match play begins.
Matches will be played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, one of the most recognized venues in American professional sports. Kansas City is scheduled to host multiple group-stage matches and a quarterfinal; potentially one of the most-watched sporting events in history.
Visitor and Economic Impact
At peak periods, Kansas City could see 100,000–125,000 visitors per week; with total visitation during the tournament exceeding 650,000 people.
Neal Sharma, Vice President of the Kansas City 2026 World Cup Host Committee (KC26) recently shared that several enhancements and offerings have been planned to spotlight the KC Area. Including An 18-day, free public Fan Festival centered at the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
There will be expanded regional transportation routes and an airport-to-downtown shuttle service, and over 5,000 trained volunteers supporting operations and coordinated public safety efforts involving local, state, and federal agencies.
This level of activation requires sophisticated infrastructure across security, transportation, communications, and access control systems.
Security at a Global Standard
Events of this magnitude operate under heightened international security protocols; including coordination with federal partners and global governing bodies such as FIFA™.
Large-scale sporting events demand:
- Credential-based access control
- Secure perimeter management
- Video surveillance integration
- Emergency communication interoperability
- Real-time monitoring and incident response readiness
- Coordination between private security providers and public agencies
For Kansas City businesses, venues, healthcare systems, schools, hotels, and municipal facilities, preparation is not optional; it is operationally critical.
